System Administration

System Administration is defined as the proactive fixing of problems, software updates, and general daily, weekly & monthly systems administration tasks on monitored systems and network devices that are under contract.

System Administration

Once Abtech’s monitoring systems identify a issue, problem or upgrade, there are different levels of response and customer involvement. Basic steps to solve the problem might be:

  • 1) Simply assisting the customer to show them how to resolve the problem.
  • 2) Abtech accesses the customer’s network remotely, logs into the affected system and fixes the problem.
  • 3) Abtech dispatches an engineer to the customer’s location to fix the problem onsite.

All system administration is done through secure remote access and remote support, with maximum security using 256-bit RC4 encryption for all sessions. Also with secure online chat between users and support personnel.

System Administration Services can include:

Anti-Virus Protection: PC's are kept current with the latest anti-virus definitions through daily or weekly automated proactive updates and immediate critical updates. Abtech has partnered with the leading anti-virus and anti-spyware providers to help ensure that an organization’s PCs are kept current and fresh to guard against the daily onslaught of new viruses and spyware.

Critical Operating System & Software updates: Critical Microsoft patches tested and automatically distributed to the customer’s user community and installed during off-hours or other suitable timetable to meet the customer needs. Software needs to stay fresh, and in order to do so software updates are released. While many may say, especially in the case of Microsoft products, that these are fixes for defects or flaws that existed prior in the product that is not necessarily always the case. Many times, and especially with Microsoft products, new features are introduced into current products which otherwise would not be available. This is done primarily to give the end user a better experience with the product but also to keep compatibility with other users, especially in a networked environment.

These updates can be scheduled to be installed automatically, such as after-hours, so that user interruption is kept to a minimum and system availability is maintained at a high level.

System administration services cover a wide range of periodic, non-emergency, needs that the customer may have. There is always network instability to troubleshoot and fix, adding/deleting users to the servers, upgrades to existing applications, coordinating with a customer’s vendors for service issues, migration/deployments of new applications, imaging/reimaging disks for complete “personality migrations” of a dead system to new one, monitoring the success of backups, weekly/monthly meetings with the customer’s management team to go over service, new initiatives, etc.
